Cheltenham Ladies’ College opened in 1854 to provide girls with an education equal to that of boys, and today, we continue to be proud of our tradition of innovation, excellence and empowerment in the education of young women.

Our GCSE, A Level and IB results are consistently excellent. We have been named top girls' boarding school in the country for IB in three of the last four years, and repeatedly recognised as the best independent school in the South West of England.

The future we are preparing our pupils for is full of excitement and challenge. While academic achievements are important, these must go hand-in-hand with cocurricular activities that interest and challenge them, a community that supports them, and opportunities to pursue passions and learn from failure. Our wide-ranging programmes offer opportunities to undertake new experiences and we are committed to helping every girl to find the talent and potential that lie within.

By nurturing well-rounded and self-confident girls, we help them to leave College as inspirational and empowered young women. Our leavers choose a variety of paths for future study, from medicine, law or engineering, to design, animation or drama: this is testament to the independent thinking, creativity and self-belief actively encouraged and thriving within our College community.

GSA School Profile

Founded in 1888 by the pioneers of women’s education in Scotland, St George’s is one of Scotland’s largest all girls’ school (710 pupils from 3 – 18 years), and the only all-through girls’ school in Edinburgh.

Located in a tranquil parkland setting in a popular residential part of Edinburgh’s West End, 15 minutes from Edinburgh international airport, the school provides an all-round British education.

The vibrant historic city of Edinburgh provides outstanding cultural opportunities for the girls to enjoy and so enrich their learning.

The GCSE and Sixth Form programmes are built round the girls’ subject choices and offer a wide range of subjects and a high degree of flexibility. Examination results have been consistently outstanding over many years, and we are proud of the fact that typically over a third of our university entrants go on to study STEM-based courses.

The school has a strong international dimension developed through the contribution of overseas boarders and the extensive overseas student exchange programme. The school has been awarded the British Council International School Award since 2008.

The boarding house, on campus, is small and friendly with around 45 girls. It is run as a home-from-home where girls benefit from a 'family' atmosphere with a high level of individual support. About half the boarders are from the UK and half from overseas.
